Wingate not allowing Vet Anti Virus software to update

Postby Paul Debono » Feb 04 04 11:32 am

We have a Wingate 4.5.1 running on a standalone internet server separate from our main file server. We can browse the internet from our main file server, but Wingate appears to be blocking attempts by our anti virus software to autodownload virus updates.

Hi,

Can you see what port the update is coming in on? You may have to open it in the firewall.

Anti Virus update

Postby Paul Debono » Feb 04 04 12:01 pm

The update is initiated from within our system. In the Anti Virus software setup we nominate the proxy server IP address and port number.

Paul,

Can you tell if it uses FTP or HTTP to do the update?

Problem with Anti Virus updates

Postby Paul Debono » Feb 04 04 5:18 pm

Cannot tell whether it uses FTP or HTTP. The software asks for a separate IP address and port for both.

Have tried to delete the history files, but no success with that either.

You should be able to see what it is trying to do by looking in the Activity screen in GateKeeper, or the History window when the client is trying to update.

Also check the logs for the WWW Proxy - most virus update clients use HTTP. It is possible that there is some problem that will show up in the WWW Proxy log files.... if you turn on debug logging that may also help narrow it down.

Problem with Anti Virus

Postby Paul Debono » Feb 05 04 1:04 pm

We have now diagonsed the problem. It related to a setup issue within the Anti-Virus program itself.

Thanks for your help
