GateKeeper History question...

Postby jazzzz » Feb 06 04 5:15 am

On our network our machines are named something like this, airhead, airhead_1, airhead_2 etc. Upon viewing our History file on the Wingate Server in Gatekeeper the computer name has taken on a New Name such as Kelly for one of our clients when in reality it should be airhead_3.

Since we occasionaly plug machines into our network and I know I had one here named Kelly a few weeks ago. Since we don't assign an IP address to our clients I allow them to obtain an IP automatically I assume Kelly was machine plugged into our Network airhead_3 was off line so 192.168.0.3 was assigned to Kelly, which in reality is now airhead_3 how do I clear the computer name from the Wingate history file so I can view the correct computer name accessing the web on our network.

There is a certain 'grace' time that WinGate allows a computer that has closed it's last session before it removes it's knowledge of that machine. (I believe this is between 5 and 10 minutes). The main reason for this is performance relating to multiple sessions.

It could be that in that grace time, "Kelly" was disconnected and "Airhead_3" came online. If this is the case, you can disconnect "airhead_3" for a while (10 to 15 minutes) and then allow it to continue browsing. (This should force WinGate to 'forget' about the machine) Alternatively, a quick stop/start of the WinGate engine should clear this as well.

Note though that past history items will not change to reflect the name change - only ones from the time when "airhead_3" was recognised would be logged with the correct name.
