Postby javila » Feb 12 04 10:06 am

Hi to all!.
Here I wrote some of my troubles and questions about logging.

Question No. 1, I have this error that is flooding my SMTP server logs, can any give me an idea of what it is happening and how to stop it?.

start of log (a part only).

02/05/04 18:32:06 Error: Message 0000009931 could not move .msg file error 2
02/05/04 18:32:06 Error: Message 0000009931 msg file not found, rcp file moved to dead
End of log.

Question No. 2, it is there a way to delete an specific "day" on the log in a way that when I browse the logfile server logs some days do not appear (on any server that has the logging option ON...?

Question No. 3, Wich one are the 'basic' chekboxes to turn ON on the Logging TAB at the SMTP server properities in order to log the 'failed authorization' line? this is because I have a suspicious GUESS-IP user that i want to log but I dont want to log all the proceduture.

Thanks! (and sorry for the 'un-technical' english)

The first thing to do would be to ensure that log-files are rolled on a daily basis. You can do this through the Scheduler. Set it to do it as late as possible on the day, then you should end up with an an individual file per day. This will be for all services though.

You can then use a command line action to execute a move / delete of the files that are appropriate, but I'd recommend testing anything like that from a command prompt first, before just adding it as a scheduler action.
