Pop3 Proxy message

Postby ngrayson » Mar 23 04 6:52 am

GUys,

I have set up wingate proxy server along with vpop3 which now connects using the proxy.

It appears to work except the POP3 Proxy log has an error every time it connects.

03/20/04 15:20:50 192.168.0.1 administrator 0000000808 Error: Unrecognised command CAPA

Do you know what this means, what causes it and can it be got rid off?

Many thanks,
Neil

Hi Neil

The CAPA request is actually made immediately by the Vpop client to the mail server to inquire as to what type of authentication the Mail server supports.

Unfortunately this is not possible in your scenario as since this request is being made to the POP3 Proxy in WinGate, the actual remote mailserver wont have a chance to reply.

If you require CAPA to be answered by the mail server then the only way to do this is via a direct NAT/WGIC connection (which is directly rather then being through the Pop3 proxy).

If you are requiring the policy and Antivirus plugin features that the POP3 proxy can provide then you may have to see if the CAPA request can be turned off in the client email software. If it doesnt affect/prevent the clients receiving their mail (due to auth problems) then this error should not be a cause for concern.

Regards
