How to configure wingate for linux ?

Postby Stoney » Apr 06 04 12:37 pm

I'm now running a red hat linux 9 comp on my network, I have it getting a dhcp address issued by the wingate dhcp service and can ping to the server from the linux machine and from the linux pc to the server.
The problem is that when I try to ping to say www.google.com from the linux comp I see the pc's ip address appear in the activity tab but all it does is a dns query on the site and returns the site ip address, so the wingate dns query is working ok.
I do see my internet connection sending data but noting but the original dns info is recieved. I have enabled the ens in wingate and also entered the ip address of the linux pc in the assumed user lists.
All of the winxp pc's on my domain function correctly and can ping to www.google.com and get a return signal.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Stoney

When you clients are recieving their DHCP details from WinGate, is it configured to assign them a gateway and dns address as well (fully automatic mode).

Your linux clients will require these in order to use the NAT (network address translation type method to connect through Gatekeeper.

This Dns and Gateway ip should be that of the internal lan IP of the WinGate server.

Something to check.
