License Question

Postby labull » Jul 30 04 12:50 am

Qbik Folks,

First let me add my congratulations on the release WinGate 6.0 to those already expressed here. This truly is a huge step forward in sophistication and functionality. Well done!

Now the question - I see there is a new "Enterprise" level of WinGate license but I can't find what that entails. How is it different from "Professional"

Thanks!

Enterprise gives you more features than a pure professional license does. I'm not 100% sure on the exact details (Will need to check for you in the morning)

1. VPN is included in an Enterprise license
2. ARP Responder is included in an Enterprise license
3. DMZ Support is included in an Enterprise license

I think that there might be other features that are Enterprise only, but I'll check those and post back.

Yup. Was mostly correct. The list is:

Enterprise:
1. WRP Central Configuration - for setting up access policies based on applications, etc. from your WinGate Server when using the WinGate Internet Client.
2. Multi-User IP support - for handling Citrix, Terminal Services, etc.
3. ARP Responder
4. Advanced Binding - for adding SSL to individual bindings (TLS is still available for mail in other versions)
5. VPN - included in Enterprise without a separate license required.

Professional:

1. Remote Access through GateKeeper
2. Remote User Database
3. Telnet Command Shell
4. DOS Command Shell
5. Bandwidth Control
6. DMZ (So this one is included in PRO and upwards, not ENTERPRISE and upwards as I indicated last night)

That should be correct, according to the source code. I'll confirm with Adrien though.

This is very, very, very bad news. I'm disappointed.
I've implemented this feature in my 10 workstations enviroment (from the first beta version of 6). It is great feature, witch blocks wide range of spyware/adware programs.

What about users of Wingate Pro?
Why are we surprised with new license level (Enterprise)?
Why there was no information on Enterprise level before you release final version?

From two-three months you tell me "We give you new tasty cake". I've bought additional year upgrade protection for wingate.
Where is my cake?

PS.
As I said, I'm using wingate from years. It is very good product.

Hi

Sorry to hear that.

We have wanted for a long time to re-introduce an enterprise version, to focus more on that market. In order to be able to entice people to purchase an Enterprise license rather than a lower-tiered one, we need to have some features that are only available in that version. We thought long and hard about which features we would reserve for Enterprise, and when we were evaluating these, we considered the types of features that are more oriented at such a market.

I do take your point about lack of notice however, and can only apologise for that, we have been extremely busy with the software itself and some other things are not up to the same level.

There will be more features coming in the future that are earmarked for enterprise only as well, such as clustering support, remote logging etc.

Consider however that depending on your situation, an upgrade to Enterprise may be very inexpensive. Most people purchase above the necessary license count, since you can count on not everyone using the internet at the same time.

Just as you don't lease a trunk telephone line for every employee in a company based on the assumption that they won't all be on the phone at the same time, you don't need a WinGate license count for every person with a computer.

I shouldn't be saying this!

I know this. It is explained on Your WWW site. But it does not complain to enterpraise license.

It IS very expensive. Look at prices at http://www.wingate.com/pricing-wingate.php. It starts from 50 concurrent users ($1119.95 for new, $800 for upgrade from 12 users)...

Do You consider Enterprise license for 12 or less concurent users? And what is the path for downgrading license of concurrent users? For example from 12 Pro to 6 Enterprise?

I have to agree with 'labull' & 'garmont' , whilst I can understand the reasons for having the Enterprise level, the number of users available I think is a problem.

I upgraded from a Version 4.x 6 user Pro to a Version 6.x 6 User Pro licence at the start of this week because we are a 50 user company with terminal services across the board. The promise of correct user authentication for Terminal users was why I upgraded , now I've realised that I now need the Enterprise version ( ok perhaps I should have dug a bit deeper before purchasing ). But I only want 6 concurrent users not the entry level 50!

Please , please , please could someone from Qbik confirm the situation, are you going to introduce 6 / 12 & 25 user levels for the Enterprise version? If not our company and many other SME's running Terminal services may have to condsider other software in order to allow us to properly manage user access.

Kind Regards,

Hi

Of course we have the capability to introduce such a license. The reason we chose the entry levle of 50, was because we thought that this was probably the minimum size that a customer of that type would require. But if that turns out to be wrong that wouldn't be the first time I ever made a mistake...:)

we also have the capability to enable individual features on a key by key basis, and keys can be combined in WinGate, so could also do something like selling features separately.

I will have some discussions with my distribution channel about it and let you know - shouldn't take long.

In the meantime, I would be keen to hear how you get on with the terminal services integration etc (assuming you activated a trial).

Cheers

WinGate 5.2.3 -> 6.0

Postby dimao » Aug 08 04 11:23 pm

We've bought 5.2.3(50 users) 3 month ago. Can we upgrade it to 6.0 for free?

Anyone who purchased WinGate 5.x post 1 April and prior to 9 august can simply activate their version 5 key, and it will be automatically upgraded to a version 6 key in the activation.

OK, we have put in support for 6, 12, and 25 users for Enterprise.

It should be available now.

Hi Adrien,

Just seen your reply regarding adding 6, 12 & 25 User Enterprise Licence options .... I know it's impossible to keep everyone happy all of the time, but this is very good news, thanks very much for reconsidering.
