Wingate 6 / Only one network Card / How to secure ?

Postby eric_b » Sep 07 04 9:48 am

Hello,

I have just ended wingate installation (6.0 Pro).

It was not working until I find GateKeeper / Network Tab / Network Connections / Properties and tell gatekeeper my card was connected to a trusted network (by default it was considered as connected to Internet)

But, in the knowledge base I find in "Private versus Public IP addresses" paper :
"... so that an Public (external) IP can be trusted or considered local, however administrators should be aware of the possible security and configuration problems that may arise from this type of use. "

I have no choice : I have only one network card, with a 192.168.x.x adress. Wingate also acces through this card to the cisco router (wich is configured in order that only the PC with wingate server can access to it).

So what I can do to secure ?

Thank you for your help.

Eric

p.s:I am using an XP Pro with Outpost Firewall and Avast antivirus.

Well as you have a different firewall already active (presumably between WinGate and your router) it shouldn't matter that the sole NIC is set to internal (trusted) as your firewall should be blocking all nastiness before it gets to WinGate.

Be aware that alot of the ENS operations (such as NAT) will have problems if you have only 1 NIC in the WinGate machine. For example, you can't NAT in and out of the same interface.
