Wingate 6.0.2 built 995 stop internet connection

Postby mark59 » Sep 14 04 10:15 am

I have installed wingate on a W2k computer after a while it stop using the internet, when you send emails to the wingate server it can't send it out also,
when you disable the LAN connection or pull out the LAN cable it works when you put it back and after a while it goes again even if you restart the machine it will not go on line until you play with the LAN connection.

It is not a IP address conflict I know that for sure

I am using the Proxy not the WG client
the IP Address of the machine is 172.168.100.2 and it is on a domain with a DNS DHCP server so i disable those Services on the Wingate Server.

thank You for your Help

When this occurs what is shown in the Activity pane of GateKeeper? Does the machine WinGate is on have the domains DNS server set in it's TCP/IP properties? If so you should disable this domain DNS server within WinGate so that a DNS loop is not started. (Even though you have disabled the DNS service, the DNS resolver still knows about DNS servers that are listed in TCP/IP properties).

To disable the domain DNS for WinGate used the Advanced Options tool that can be found under the WinGate branch of the Start menu. The bottom option of this tool 'DNS servers' allows you to specify DNS servers that WinGate will not use. (You want requests to be made out to the internet rather than in to your network).

Yes the machine WinGate is on have the domains DNS server set in it's TCP/IP properties.

In the activity panel on the gateway flash the activity of the clients and also sometimes it shows the client wrong name not only when it is down but somtimes when it is working also.
example instead of "itt-ips" the client name. it will show somthing like this "AC0343.aol.com" instead of the client name.

Does this happen when there is a DNS loop also?

I have to get at work to try this solution.

Thank You For your fast responce.
