Allow MSN/Yahoo Messengers on certain timings

Postby tayyabq8 » Feb 10 08 3:13 am

I want to allow my kids at home to use MSN/Yahoo messengers at certain time, on other timings they shouldn't be able to access to MSN/Yahoo Messengers.

Is it possible??? Thanks in advance.

I would suggest that you completely restrict MSN/Yahoo Messenger in the user policy that the kids are a member of. Then create another new policy for that user group that has the same authentication requirements as the first one, but has your desired allowed time settings set up under the Time tab and also has an Advanced setting where the Filter has criterion something like Criterion1 = HTTP URL contains MSN
and Criterion 2= HTTP URL contains messenger.

So, the first policy completely stops access 24/7, the second allows it at certain times. WG will logically .OR. the two policies. This means that if one policy grants permission it will be granted.

Hope this helps.

Chrish,

Thanks for your reply, I would try that, but what is the URL or port number for Yahoo & MSN Messengers?

Thanks again.
