WGIC uninstall

Postby mediabyte » Oct 03 04 1:08 am

I have uninstalled WGIC from 2 pc, but WRP remains active.
I have disabled WRP and auto-start
I have tried to install/uninstall many times....

With WGIC disabled and removed, applications use always WRP

Nothing to do......
P.S. Uninstaller does not remove the control panel icon

PC configuration:
- W2000 SP4
- Admininstrator privileges
- WG 6.03
- Symantec client security (disabled)

Thanks

Simone

Did you have an earlier version of WGIC installed on that machine? I.e. was it an upgrade from a 5.x or 4.x release of WGIC?

Okay, I'm just wondering if it is affected by that - Neil's been testing this today and it all seemed good on Win2K- so we'll run through it as an upgrade from 5.2.3, then see how it behaves.

In all the cases Neil tried he could uninstall it fine on NT based system (NT, 2k, XP, 2003). However, on 9x systems he ran into a problem because msiexec gets hooked by WGIC while it's uninstalling in some cases.

When you're uninstalling, exclude msiexec. Perhaps there is a SP + OS + installer version combination on 2K that has the same problem as 9x systems.

Hi Simone

Just something to add to this

To have the WGIC icon removed from the control panel on uninstall, you need to manually disable the client before uninstalling.

Take a read of our knowledgebase article in the WinGate Internet Client section on how to remove this.

http://support.qbik.com/index.php?_a=kn ... ubcat&_i=2

One sure way of making sure the client stops using WRP is to make sure that all the WGIC files have been removed (especially the Wglsp.dll usually installed the system /System32 folder).

You can find a list of these files on the WinGateInfo.htm on the WinGate server under WinGate in the programs menu.

Regards
