$LockFile present in mail folder and can't collect mail

Postby mkobald » Apr 15 08 11:54 am

I have an email account that suddenly stopped pop3 mail collection although email was still being sent to the email address. When checking it out I found a $LockFile in the mail\pop folder for this user. What is the reason for this and how do I fix it. I getting Access Denied when I try to delete the file.

Thanks.

Hi,

What you might have to do is to stop the Wingate Service to delete the file.

that $lockfile is used to lock the mailbox for POP3 access (i.e. POP3 clients logging into the account). This is because POP3 is single-access only.

That file should be cleaned up whenever the POP3 session that accessed that mailbox is closed (for any reason). The existence of that file will prevent any other session from being able to log into that POP3 mailbox, and if the file is still held open by WinGate, you'd need to stop the WinGate engine to delete it.

If this happens again, please let us know, it should be cleaned up so unless you still see a POP3 session in GateKeeper activity there could be a problem.

Regards
