Ok, first thing - go check in under Administrative tools to see if the service itself can be started from there. You will find this under "Administrative Tools" -> "Services". Scroll down for "Qbik WinGate Engine".
Is it listed there and does it show as "Automatic" or "Manual" start? If it does, can you check the system (OS) event log to see if anything else might be causing a problem.
If that still does give a clear indication of what might be wrong, try starting it from a shortcut with the "-force9x" command line parameter. This runs it as an application, not as a service, but will indicate if it's a problem with the service itself or with the registration / os handling thereof.
