WWW Proxy Server

Postby Ann » Aug 20 05 4:26 am

I previously posed the question about windows update.
What if I wanted to use the WWW proxy server instead of NAT to access windows update. How can I set windows update to pass through Wingate?

Thanks
Ann

Can you confirm that you are still getting this error message?

Error number 0x00710DD

I am not getting the error message when I use NAT.
However, I would like to make windows update work without using NAT.

Thanks,
Ann

Can you confirm you are still receiving this error when updating via proxy?

Hi Ann,

I've been trying to hunt down that error code and can't seem to find it. It's only 7 characters whereas normally those error codes would be 8. (Tried 0x000710dd through 0xf00710dd as well) Can you confirm that the number is correct as that would help greatly in finding out what the root cause is.

So, the first step would be to try and determine if it is the presence of the proxy that is affecting this. Can you turn on Intercepts please (Sessions tab of the WWW Proxy Service, ensure that port 80 is being intercepted). What this will do is funnel all NAT web traffic through the appropriate proxy service.

Secondly, do you have authentication enabled on your WWW Proxy Service?

Regards,
Pascal

Since I changed Wingate from proxy to nat and back, I am getting a new error message of 0x80072EFD. I looked this up on Microsoft. Here is the link for it.

The intercept in the www proxy is on.

Thanks,
Ann

Hi Ann,

Thanks for the update. I assume it is still giving you the error message when you have intercepts turned on?

You might need to refer to this knowledge base article, which describes how to configure the proxy settings for Windows Update. It does not use the IE proxy settings as it runs in the Local System account.

Double check that, please. Oh, which version of Windows Update is this? I'd like to run a similar scenario here.

Yes, with the intercepts on I still receive the error message.
The URL for windows update says V6. I am assuming this is version 6.
I believe this their newest version of Windows update.

Thanks,
Ann

Thanks for that Ann. Our QA team is going to look at reproducing it and we'll get back to you as soon as we have an answer.

Ok, QA came back with an answer.

Would it be possible for you to send us a copy of your WinGate configuration, please? You can export the configuration from in GateKeeper, by going into Options -> Advanced -> Save Registry Settings.

Alternatively, if you open Advanced Options from the WinGate start menu folder you will find a tab that allows you to export / import setups - you can also export your setup from there.
