Outlook and SMTP Auth faild

Postby akawhoami » Apr 14 09 3:25 pm

Hello.

WinGate 6.5.2, Win 2003 SP2.

When I send mail (Outlook Express 6 or Outlook 2007) using smtp authentication, I get an error

SMTP: 10:09:51 [rx] 220 127.0.0.1 ESMTP Service ready
SMTP: 10:09:51 [tx] EHLO pc0004
SMTP: 10:09:51 [rx] 250-127.0.0.1 greets you
SMTP: 10:09:51 [rx] 250-AUTH CRAM-MD5 PLAIN LOGIN
SMTP: 10:09:51 [rx] 250-AUTH=LOGIN
SMTP: 10:09:51 [rx] 250 SIZE 0
SMTP: 10:09:51 [tx] AUTH LOGIN
SMTP: 10:09:51 [rx] 334 VXNlcm5hbWU6
SMTP: 10:09:51 [tx] bWFpbF9ib2l2cA==
SMTP: 10:09:51 [rx] 334 UGFzc3dvcmQ6
SMTP: 10:09:51 [tx] Ym9pdnA=
SMTP: 10:09:52 [rx] 535 Failed Authentication

When i use Mozilla Thunderbird, then all is well.
But mozila method uses CRAM-MD5.

My policy settings:
WinGate->SMTP server->Policies->Everyone (User must be authenticated)

What could be the problem?

Hi,

Do you use and configure the SMTP server on the wingate side ? Do you need to have a SMTP service ?

If NO, then you should "deactivate" this service, and it will fix your problem ! Wingate will be transparent for your email sent...Same stuff for POP3 service...

There is a lot of posts on this subject....

best regards
Pascal
