Wingate only shows first 12 users from active directory

Postby SeanLeR » Sep 09 09 1:30 am

Hi

I have got 12 concurrent user's licences for Wingate (I have upgraded to 25 but am waiting for my key).

I have started using a trial key that should be giving me 250users+

Currently when I try to use the active directory it only shows the first 12 users from my domain in alphabetical order and guest.

I want it to use only those users that will connect to the internet and not the system/anti virus user names.

Any way I can go about this as the way it stands at the moment I would have to add another 20 or so user licences just so it can see the 21 real users in my domain.

Hi

It shouldn't be limiting the users it shows in the users tab based on license, only the number of different machines connected to the WinGate server.

Have you tried resynchronising the user database?

Hi

Resynchronising makes no difference.

It seems to limit the amount of users to a max of 14.

I have tried several times

Based on your description of the problem, it sounds like WinGate may not be running under a user account that has permission to access the user database of the domain. As a result, you may only be seeing the users/groups that are publicly viewable on the network instead of the entire directory. You will need to change WinGate to run under a domain administrator account from the domain (we recommend making a new account on the domain for this purpose).

  1. Open the Computer Management MMC (found in Administrative tools in Windows) and open the Services and Applications configuration that lists all Services.
  2. Select the Qbik WinGate Engine service.
  3. Right click on this service and select Properties.
  4. Select the Log On tab.
  5. Where it says Log on as, select the This Account option and browse the Active directory for a suitable account with Domain Adminstration equivilent privilages. (It is recommended that administrators create a special account in Active Directory Users
  6. and Computers for this purpose.)
  7. Stop and then Restart the WinGate engine for the changes to affect.
  8. Re-synchronise the database from the User database configuration found under the Users tab in GateKeeper.
