Wingate, Active Directory & Dialup modem

Postby Nokia » Nov 27 05 9:54 am

Hi guys,
I wonder if anyone can help me on that matter.
I have a Windows 2003 server configured as a Domain Controller with Active Directory. This machine serve many computers on our site. We would like to make these connected machine to share the server Internet connection. However, the only connection that server has is a normal dial up connection. What is the best configuration for Wingate on the server to make other computers make use of that dialup modem to connect to the Internet? Remember that we want to install Wingate on the same AD machine and this machine also has the dialup modem which will provide the internet connection.

This should be pretty straightforward really, you'll want to stop the WinGate DNS and DHCP services because you're placing WinGate on the AD DC and this will perform these functions.

When you install WinGate on the server you'll see the dialer profile under Dialers (in the Control Panel in GateKeeper). You will need to enable the two checkboxes in the WinGate dialer, "connect as required using the connection list" and "enable this connection to be used by WinGate". You'll also need to enter the username and password within the dialer. Just double click the dialer profile to select the second check box and enter the user details.

Now WinGate will dial the modem when it needs access to the internet.

Thanks MattP.
I tried what you have said but there was a little problem. The dialer won’t dial automatically although I ticked the options "connect as required using the connection list" and "enable this connection to be used by WinGate". When I request any website from Internet Explorer on any of the client connected to the server, I get “page not found”. However, when I dialed the connection manually on the server, everything went smoothly. Kindly, can you tell me how can I make the dialer dials automatically? Keep in mind that I have installed the “WinGate Internet Client” on every client on the network to make sure that the dialer will work but with no luck.

Hi,

Maybe this post could have the answer to an unresponsive connectoid, something I have seen numerous times on Win9x mainly --> here http://forums.qbik.com/viewtopic.php?t=3434

Report back how it goes...
