How can I prevent Wingate from running when I turn on my computer? I only want it to run when I tell it to because I do not use it much.

Well I am using Wingate to give my Win98 ICS so I can play my PS2 online through my NIC. It has worked wonderfully, but the headset for SOCOM2 (the game I am playing) does not connect. I have been told that when going through a router, certain ports need to be opened. Are there some on Wingate that need to be opened?

Thank you for your time.

Ok Karl, you could remove the Icon for the Wingate engine in your pc. It is set to 'auto run' each time the system boots and is found Start>Programs>Startup>WingateEngineMonitor or thereabouts, drag this icon to the desktop and click on it when you need it should do what you ask.

As for the ports it is possible that the NAT firewall could be denying access, so you will need to identify these ports and make special rules for them in the ENS/NAT configuration.

Thank you very much for your help. I just have 1 more question.

Ok and also, when I turn on my computer, every time I do it goes to the screen where I have to choose

1 Start in Normal Mode
2 Start in Safe Mode
3 Start in Prompt Mode
etc...

How do I get it to stop doing that?

Ok, not a Wingate matter but the boot menu is configured by the settings in the root file MSDOS.SYS in a 9x system.

Easiest way to adjust this file is using Tweakui which you can dowload here: http://www.microsoft.com/ntworkstation/ ... weakUI.asp then hit the 'boot' tab or similar and you can adjust the delay or have no menu.

As for opening the ports, is there any way that I can just open all of them or something? If so what would the range be? And to do that, I go to the Extended Networking, then port security right?

Thanks again for all of your help.
