Microsoft VPN and WinGate

Postby Felipe HNQ » Sep 20 03 2:15 am

Hi,

Can i have a VPN server behind WinGate? The server will be in a computer on the LAN, and the lients will acces this VPN through WinGate.

Is this possible?

How?

Thanks

That depends on what VPN software you are running.

WinGate VPN will run through a NAT, and you can either host the VPN behind a NAT or join one from behind a NAT.

However, if you are using MS VPN server, which uses L2TP or GRE, then there is no way currently with WinGate 5.0.7 to redirect inbound GRE or L2TP packets (the VPN tunnel data) inbound through WinGate.

Microsoft VPN can't work? Why?

Postby andrewclark » Nov 27 03 12:05 pm

Adrien

This is highly frustrating.

MS VPN used to work fine with Wingate V4.

What has happened in V5 to stop it working?

When will we see a fix for this?

(See also my posting of today on same Topic - before I saw this one)

If you use PPTP for your VPN connections, then the next release of WinGate will support both inbuond and outbound connections for this MS VPN protocol.

Neil

I use Microsoft CHAP Version 2, and Require encryption. Will this work with the new Wingate version?

Hi

It should work fine, the authentication is done over a TCP connection, and there was never a problem with that, only the tunnel packets which use another protocol called GRE which was broken in 5.0.8 to 5.1 (fixed in 5.2).

Thanks, Adrien

Is 5.2 ready for download?
