Grisoft Antivirus updates fail

Postby catspro » Jan 24 06 2:45 pm

Am using the free edition of Grisoft, A/V. The product will not update unless internet explorer is launched and running. If IE is running, I can download updates for the antivirus. IF the browser is closed, the updates fail. The proxy address is setup in the Grisoft product. I am also using active directory authentication. thanks for any help.

Are you requiring authentication for access to the WWW proxy?

Yes I had www proxy, set to ntlm authentication, for my group internet users. I disabled that setting and the updates on the client computers for grisoft now work properly. Disabling authentication sort of defeats the purpose of having user groups authenticate to use the internet. Thanks for your reply, I think we chatted by email this weekend. Wingate far exceeds winproxy, appreciate your feedback as I test and configure my installation of wingate.

Hi

If you know the site that the grisoft updater is going to for updates, you can add a policy that grants unrestricted / unauthenticated access to this site. Then turn authentication back on for normal use.

The updater can then run (since it probably doesn't handle NTLM authentication), and your users would be authenticating again (for every site except the grisoft one, but I don't imagine that would be a major concern).
