new install

Postby shellymathew » Mar 09 14 6:38 am

hi,
I've just completed a new install of wingate, and am using it as the internet gateway for our wireless users. i've installed the dns service, and am able to surf the internet from a client pc behind the server. but my gmail and IM clients are not able to get through. where would i need to make the changes to allow this traffic?
the primary reason for using WinGate is to be able to generate reports on internet usage, for our wireless users. reports would need to include source ip's, destination url's, time browsed etc. would wingate provide me these reports?
thanks.

Hi

how are your client browsers configured to access the internet? Are they set to use a proxy?

What it sounds like is that NAT isn't working for some reason, and maybe the client browsers are set to use a proxy but only for http (not https).

Normally in a browser you set it to use the same proxy for all protocols - since for http, https and ftp, the proxy is the same - the WWW proxy in WinGate all on the same port.

Regards
