NT Authentication

Postby will taylor » Nov 27 03 5:53 am

Hi,

I have a client with a Win2k Server running Wingate 5.07. It is using the java applet for Wingate authentication. The client now wants it to use NT authentication, so I created a group in AD Users and Computers, and enabled NT authentication in Wingate, and set that group to be allowed internet access.

Unfortunately however, when users attempt to log on in the java applet, the response in the little box (that would usually say login failed/sucessful etc) sats simply "Error - no response"

Any ideas?

Cheers,

Will

Hi Will,

NT authentication through the java login will not work because of the two different mechanisms required.

If you need to authenticate using NT Database method, then you can use the WinGate Internet Client instead of the Java logon with IE. It may require a little extra effort to install on each client but it can be set to handle authentication for all Internet applications on the client machine, at the prompt of a user/password dialog box.

The way to do this is explained in depth the WinGate helpfile.
