Log Files Redirect

Postby defiantclass1 » Sep 16 06 3:13 pm

Is there any way to redirect the log files to another drive? I looked through Wingate, but didn't see a setting for that.

I had a strange occurance with the current day DNS Resolver and WINS Resolver log files growing very large and I ended up with a space issue on the C: drive. I corrected the problem the was causing this, but had concerns about future issues if that happens again.

Alternatively, could I simply save the configuration file, uninstall Wingate and reinstall it on another drive and import back in the configuration file? Would the log file folders be created on the drive I did the installation on, or do they have to be installed in the Program Files - file folder?

Thank you.

You can change it in the registry (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Qbik Software\WinGate\Logging)

Thank you! I looked at this registry location. The only pathway I see to modify is the "DBPath". I change that setting to the new drive. However, after restarting the Wingate engine, I still see the logs growing in the old location.

Did I do this incorrectly? Is the "Logs" folder the only directory that needs to be placed in the new drive, or are there other folders/files from C: that need to go to the new drive as well? (I copied the "Logs" folders and files from C: to D: so I would have them all there) but I didn't know about anything else from C: that might need to go over as well.

Thank you again.

No, you need to add an entry.
help file wrote:To change the directory of the service log files:

HKEY_LOCAL_COMPUTER\SOFTWARE\Qbik Software\WinGate\Settings\

Create a value called LogFileDirectory and set it to the path you want.
The DBPath key is for history logging that shows up in GateKeeper

I'm cook'n now bro, thanks!!! I think I'll leave the History path there too. The more off of C: the better.

Thanks again!!

Chris,

If you are still getting updates on this topic, I had set my DBPath for the History to another drive. I can see the History file growing on the new drive, but in Gatekeeper I see no history at all.

The path is set correctly and everything. Not sure why I can see the history activity in Gatekeeper.

The other log files are working great though.

Thank you!

In GateKeeper under Options->History Settings ensure that the database path is correctly listed to your new drive.

Right, I did look at that. It looks right to me. The thing is, it's grey so I couldn't change it there if I wanted to. Only in the Registry can I change it, but it does look correct. I will check again, but I'm sure it's right. And as I sadi before, I can see the file itself grow, so it has to be right in order for the file to collecting new data and grow, right?

Thanks!

Try this. Close GateKeeper, Stop WG engine, delete history.dbf and history.cdx files, restart WG engine, restart GateKeeper. Any different?

Chris,

I just tried your last suggestion. I did not however change anything. After deleteing the 2 files and restarting Wingate, new files were created though!!! And again, I can watch both files grow within the directory, just can't see any activity in the viewer. Strange!

Honestly, I don't use the History viewer to much, but it makes me wonder if there is anything else that isn't right.

Thank you

Hmmmm.... works for me.
There is a GateKeeper Registry entry at
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Qbik Software\GateKeeper\HistoryView
that may influence your settings. But I wouldn't think so. You are viewing GK from WG server machine as opposed to remote view? Again, don't know if that is an issue or not. Beyond that I'm afraid I can't suggest much else. Qbik team will have to step back in.
