Caching TradeMe

Postby asianman » Sep 17 06 1:09 pm

Is there anyway I can cache www.trademe.co.nz without it holding all the account information in the cache? When I login to Trademe it stores my membership info and if someone else on the network goes onto Trademe it brings up my info too...

What can I do?

Have you tried the latest version? We have mad some changes in the caching implementation and it will probably help fixing your problem.

Looks like we have identified where the problem is - testing the fix now.

Cookies. The way trademe uses cookies and the way Wingate handles them. I could elaborate more on this but I want to see how the testing goes first.

Hmmm

by default if the server sets a cookie we won't cache the page, since we consider it to be user-specific/generated and therefore not for consumption by others.

I'll check with what's going on - there should still be a bunch of content on there than can be cached, like images etc.

I actually have some escalation at the moment in my network regarding the same problem (users seeing other users' logins in various sites). I remember having this problem since v5.x, then we restricted caching of particular sites. However, it is not possible to make rules for all sites with logins :(
I'm using version 6.0.4.

And one more thing - I've been using squid in some places, it never had any problems with logins or 'old newspapers' (when you always see old cached content in some sites, until you hit refresh), without any special configuration.

Snoopy, the new engine has been sent to you - let me know if it disappears on the way.
