port 25 blocked?

Apr 18 07 8:51 am

Hello

When I try to send email, or telnet to a mail server on port 25, no connection is made. From the WRS log there is an entry in both cases that says error 10060:
Request 48679 connect error 10060
- or -
Request 48681 connect error 10060

I'm running wingate 6.2.1 on SBS 2003. The SBS 2003 firewall is turned off (I think). Wingate SMPT service disabled. Using SBS DNS, with wingate DNS disabled. Internet access works fine. POP3 access works fine. Starting the SMTP service make no difference.

My WSP suggested that I try using port 366, and that works OK. Telnet connection is made to mail server.

Is SMTP outbound being blocked by wingate or by my ISP?

Thanks

probably your ISP.

it's relatively common. Try connecting to the smtp server of your ISP - normally they allow that only when they block other port 25.

Xtra in New Zealand for instance blocks port 25 by default now. Daft.

They have an opt-out option to allow you access again. your ISP may too.
