dialing problem wingate and win2K

Feb 18 04 4:18 am

Hi all,

I have a problem with wingate (5.0.2) on a pc running win2000 sp4, connected to ISP by an Robotics ISDN modem (on com port)

After time (days) that all work fine, I have installed (for an unfounded suspected virus infection in some pc of the network) Norton antivirus also on the PC where wingate work.
I told this because after that moment, now, every morning the pc (where wingate run) must be restarted else it not dial-up to the ISP.
I have set debug in dial windows, looking in the dialer logs I can see that it call ISP, but it fail name/password confirmation.
After pc reboot all work fine.. and this for other many dialing in the morning (also sometime the pc must be rebooted during the day for the same problem).

Do you have an idea of what can be happened ? and something to solve ?

thank in advance, Best regards

Do you get this problem only if you dial from within WinGate OR if you manually use the Operating System dialer as well ?

You could also try re-creating the dial up connectoid to your isp, in case that has been corrupted in some way.

In first af all... thanks for reply !

Do you get this problem only if you dial from within WinGate OR if you manually use the Operating System dialer as well ?

> Is very hard to do this test, because I'm not where wingate is installed... as you can understand, the people there, when no internet connection is made, the only thing that can do is to reboot the machine (and the only thing that I can do is to see the problem in dial log). But I will try to do this test. We can suppose that also dialing with os the problem still persist ? so I understand it can be an OS problem, but why so randomly and after Norton install ?

> Yes I can do this, but why after reboot all come to work fine ?

Again thanks in advance

!!! (now seem that it goes online without PC-roboot)

Something I can try ?

For a config mistake I create two dialers in dialer control panel (the new inserted is disabled).. but ... how I can delete it ?

The Win2K SP4 is full updated to last windows update release.
I check, as suggested, also win2k dialer setup... all seems to be correct (in fact before antivirus installation... all work fine for some time)

Please help me because I have to give solution to my customer

Thank again, Best Regards

Dialer profiles in WinGate are retrieved from the Operating System. So, if you have a duplicate / disabled profile, you can remove it from the Operating System and it should disappear from WinGate. (Either when you log in to GateKeeper, or restart the engine)

I cannot find that error code (797) in the RAS error list. However, Microsoft has an interesting article on it:

thanks again for reply... yesterday I understand how to delete the dialer ;-)
I have removed both, windows connection and rebuild all dialing config.

Don't made RAS driver "refresh" as microsoft article (discovered now from you reply) it will the next step if log don't sound fine ;-)

Thanks again and sorry for the problem
