Connection refused by server

Mar 07 04 4:51 pm

I am trying to configure Wingate for the first time.

After installing the latest version of Wingate 5.2.3, I noticed that the Wingate Engine did not start automatically. I tried to start the Wingate Engine (using the default user name "Administrator", no password, localhost and port 808). Server install was done under WINDOWSME.

The Wingate Engine returned an error message stating "Problem Connecting to Server. There was a problem correcting to the server. Connection refused by server. Check your server name and port number." I confirmed the specified server name ("localhost") and port ("808") on the GateKeeper logon screen.

I also confirmed that the IP address on the LAN Adapter was "192.168.1.220". The HOST="RDHHOME". The domain="ehmptn01.ct.comcast.net". DNS was set appropriately.

I confirmed that the external adapter is working properly.

I tried reinstalling two times.

I also checked the REGISTERY for HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/software/Qbik Software/WinGate/USERDATABASE and did not find it or anything that seemed to have a password assigned to ADMINSTRATOR.

What do I need to do to LOGON?
Any help would be appreciated.

Does the WinGate engine actually start? Ie is the systray icon red or blue? Also, you don't have anything else running on that port do you?

Yes, the Wingate engine is running (i.e. it shows up in the sys tray, but is red). Nothing else is running on Port 808.

If the engine is RED it did not start. The icon needs to be blue. If you right-clock on the icon and say "Start WinGate" does it turn yellow, then blue ?

When I right click and select Start Engine, nothing happens (icon remains red).

When I right click and select Start Gatekeeper, a logon is initiated but I get the "Connection is Refused" message.

Okay, that sounds as if something has gone awry with the install. But before we go there, can you double click the WinGate.exe in your install folder, please. See if that starts it.

Well, the problem appears to have been solved by starting Wingate using the wingate.exe file.

I'm not sure why Wingate did not start automatically. Any thoughts?

You mentioned you had no "User Database" entry. This sounds suspiciously like something went wrong during the installation process.

Double check that WinGate is set to run on startup. If ME follows 98 (I don't have a ME machine closeby to verify this on) then you should be able to get this from Start -> Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> System Information.

Thanks for Russian wingate forums.

Installed software:
Win 2k/
Wingate 5.2.3
kavperspro45rus (Kaspersky antivirus Pro 4.5)

To solve problem that Wingate not start automatically:
delete from Plugins -> PluginDKAV.dll

After that service is start normally.
(I don't know if it will be bad for functionality of Wingate ->
BUT it starts and working!!!!)

Thats ALL.
