Hi Support!
I have three web cams on my intranet and also external connections with MSN and web cam. With 5.2.2 and erlier it did not work at all. Not even with firewall disabeld. I have tried with different ports open and I have tried to set up Wingate services and so on. BUT IT WOULD NOT WORK. Now I was very happy to se that you give Wingate support for MSN web cams. Only video but anyway.
I have tried:
- local connections on my intranet with and without firewall
- to external intranet PC:s with and without firewall
I alway get the same message. Can not ..... due to technical reasons.... when I try to invite someone or if someone invites me.
I have looked for help in:
- MSN help files
- Wingate help files
- Wingate FAQ
But there is no useful advice for getting it to work. Please give support and better instructions in this area.
I am running my Wingate server on a NT4 SP6 machine. Clients are most Windows XP.
I have also noticed that 5.2.3 is less stable than 5.2.2. Why?
When I open Wingate from Wingate monitor I can only work with changing options/settings for 3-5 min, than I always have to login to Wingate again.
Regards,
Anders

Hi Anders,
We have successfully tested MSN webcams here, using a default configuration of WinGate with no changes made. It works very well. Have you made any configuration changes to your system?

Matt

I have same problem working with Wingate 5.2.2, MSN, webcam and Windows 98 SE in server and client pc.
In server pc is installed Norton Internet Security and the MSN/webcam works fine when it is activated or deactivated.
In client pc, don't receive images with NIS activated or deactivated.
Best wishes.

How are your clients connecting to the WinGate server, ie, are you using a NAT connection, the WGIC or Proxy connection? It seems unusual that you wouldn't be able to use the webcam on your intranet. What internal IP address range are you using?

I HAVE TRIED BOTH WGIC AND PROXY. Normally clients connect though WGCI.

I AM USING 192.168.0.1 (WG server) and 192.168.0.2-10
Only standard: File sharing, IPX and TCP/IP.
Automatic DHCP/DNS.
I have also tried to configurate MSN för 127.0.0.1 port 80 or 1080 with HTTP/SOCKS but the web cam will NOT operate on my lan from PC-PC or from Lan PC to internet. ??????? Whats wrong????
I have a SW that scans my lan for open ports and lan information. Can I use it for providing information to you I will gladly do so.

Just to say that I've got the same problem here too... all my machines are W2k Pro and the client is connected using the WinGate Client

MSN web cam.
Yesterday I got sound in one direction (both PC where on intranet) but not in the other.
Later the same day I got picture in one direction to internet but no sound.
In the evening I got sporadic sound in one direction???
I have tried 5.2.3, 5.2.2 and 5.2 ....
My MSN application says that there is no PnP compliance. How does it know that and how do I make it stop paying attention to that.

THE CLIENTS ARE CONNECTING WITH PROXY CONNECTION.

192.168.1.1 - 192.168.1.200

We don't support voice messenging at this time as that requires the firewall to be uPnP compatible and we are not. Video should not be a problem though.
If it's not working on the LAN can you check the LAN connections to the internet and LAN connections to the WinGate server on the ENS Port Security tab and make sure that you have the default action set to allow? Are you seeing any firewall activity when you can't access over the LAN?

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Yes I have tried:
- no firewall (allow all)
- all standard firewalls settings
- adding the ports I guess MSN webcam needs (both UDP and TCP)
BUT the application says that it can not connect due to technical ......
I can not look at the server for firewall activity due to the fact that it do not connect and my server is far away. I have also (to get rid of instability and slow access sometimes) disabled all loggs and statistics.
