Proxy Authentication (JAVA)

Mar 13 04 7:37 am

Ok heres my problem, I have set up WinGate with users and have set www proxy restrictions and such. I have setup the internal and external ips. I am unable to ping any internet site when the wingate engine is running. When the engine is stopped I am able to ping once again.

Besides that point I have set up WinGate clients to authenticate by setting the proxy server option in the browser, which means they would have to put in a username and password everytime they click on internet explorer, am I right?

When I try to do this the user clients are not asked for a password and are restricted access to any website and when I view the server activity it shows that the client was refused access to the guest username from every computer that I tried.

WHy is it that wingate is assuming that every computer trying to connect to the proxy service is the guest account? How can I keep this from occurring?

Hello Oscar,

Have you checked the Use Java client authentication as required by policies box on the General tab of WWW Proxy Server? If you require authentication in WWW policy and users aren't authenticated they show up as Guests because WG doesn't know who they are yet. And because you probably have no policy for Guests in WWW Server, they cannot browse. The only other thing I have seen, if you do have this checked, is sometimes Anti Virus software on client machines is blocking pop up windows or Java and scripts. Try disabling the AV blocking and the WinGate Logon Java window should pop up and users can then authenticate.

Hope this helps.

I do have that box checked and our antivirus does not have pop up blocking enabled. The Proxy does require authentication like I said but the dialog box does not show up on the client screens. [/quote]

Oscar,

In Gatekeeper, could you go to Options, Advanced, Troubleshooting and then uncheck License Key and License Details then click on Save Report and then copy and post the results of that saved text file here? This makes it easier to see how you have WG setup. I will compare it with what I have setup.Thanks.

Oscar,

Can your users log on to WG using GateKeeper? The best way to do this is to network share the WG folder and then launch Gatekeeper from client machine by opening shared folder and double clicking GateKeeper.exe. This is another way to authenticate users. I was just wondering if by doing so would your users show up as authenticated on WG server machine.

Oscar,

One more thing to check is if you have the Remote Control Service bound to your local LAN adapter.

Chris, Thank yo for your help on this issue. I have been able to resolve it by authenticating first with gatekeeper. If you could help on my newest posted topic I would appreciate it.
