bridging ?

Mar 18 04 9:32 am

Question about bridging from a newbie :

I am trying to make a bridge between a wireless network and a wired network.
The bridge should be on a PC having both a WIFI card and a ethernet card.

The wireless network is organised around a wifi linksys wrt54g router.

Wireless PCs see each other and wired PCs see each other as well.
The central PC (wired/wireless) sees both networks.
All PCs are in the same workgroup.

Now, I would like to make all wireless PC see wired ones (and the other way round).

The config is the following :

Wifi Router : 192.168.1.1

PC1 (wireless):192.168.1.200/255.255.255.0 (access to internet/ADSL)
PC2 (wireless): 192.168.1.201/255.255.255.0
PC3 wireless : 192.168.1.202/255.255.255.0
wired : 192.168.2.100/255.255.255.0
PC4 wired : 192.168.2.101/255.255.255.0
PC5 wired : 192.168.2.102/255.255.255.0

I have tried to use wingate, but I only have succeeded in making the wireless section disappear from the wireless/wired PC...

I guess this should be simple...

If WinGate is on the machine that has both a wireless connection and a wired conenction, then to bridge clients across this connection all you need to do is, firstly make sure that the 'Support for Multiple Subnetwroks' is ticked in the ENS properties, and then make the WinGate machine's IP's the default Gateway for each of the clients behind it on both subnets. Thus if WinGate's wireless IP is 192.168.1.200 then all the wirelss machines should ahve their default gateways poiting at this, and if WinGate's wired IP is 192.168.2.100 then all the wired machiens should have their default gateways pointing at that. OBviously making sure that both interfaces are active and set correctly in WinGate under the Network Interfaces option, from the Options - Advanced menu in GateKeeper.

Thanks for the answer.
With your advice I managed to make every PC see every other one.

This is a first step, however I still have two problems :

1/Although I can browse the network and see other PC in the second subnet, I still cannot access shared drives from one subnet to the other.

2/How can I share the internet connection with comes from a dsl connection on another PC than the wingate's PC ?

Many thanks.
