how to ban use of proxy server software

Mar 19 04 5:32 pm

Hi,

I am giving access rights to my user based on IP address.
One problem that I am facing now is, someone has installed a software called anologX proxy on one machine that has the access right. This software then allows other machines that have no access right to access the internet via it. So, is there anyway I can block this ?

I have made to understood that this also can be done very easily using normal built-in win XP utility.

Can someone help me ?

Thank you.

Hello,

The best way IMHO is to install the WG client on the "analogX" machine, then in WRS polices in GateKeeper ban the analogX executable from being granted access from that IP or user. Another possiblility might be to force user authentication rather than assumption by IP. Then the "analogX" machine will have to be authenticated first before downstream machines will have access. This wouldn't be perfect though as once the legitimate user was online then all others could follow. Other than that, a company policy to force users to not use any non approved software? Hope these ideas help.
