WGIC and ENS - no interfaces?

Mar 29 04 3:40 am

Hi,

Been using WinGate for a while but never had need for selecting which interfaces for outgoing until now... I was under the impression that WGIC (Winsock Redirector) and ENS allowed you to selected which interfaces to use for outgoing but they don't seem to have. Are they suppose to and if so, what's wrong?

If not, this is the wrong forum but do you plan to implement this in the future?

Hi Nil

WinGate on startup (or through dialer triggering) will automatically set each of the proxy services in WinGate to use the Internet connection (External interface) (modem/dialup adapter included) when connecting to the Internet on behalf of the clients.

If this is a Network card type connection (where it has a static external IP assigned) as opposed to a dialup interface (where an IP is assigned everytime WinGate needs to connect), WinGate will list this Network connection as available to be used on the Interface tab found under each Proxy service.

These can be selected to be rotated or specifically used by a proxy server service via this tab.

Because of this difference there is unfortunately no way to tell the WinGate to use a dial up connection over a network type connection, or be the preferred choice over each other.

Obviously due to adminstrative practice there is now way for WGIC client to determine or change this either.

You can find out about how WinGate handles External versus Internal Interfaces on our knowledge base here

I'm not sure if what you're saying applies.

I'm not trying to change what interface is used from the client but from the server. Currently, on Wingate 5.2.3 I can select which external interface should be used for all proxy services but not for WGIC (winsock redirector) and ENS...
