WinXP Pro sharing with Win95

Mar 29 04 6:40 pm

Hi. I'm completely new to this Wingate thing. First of all...will it give me the ability to share a WinXP Pro internet connection with a Win95 machine.
I'm guessing it can.

Secondly, I've configured everything the way the help file specifies but to no avail. My main concern is that on the Win95 machine, I double click Internet Explorer and it doesn't even seem to attempt to access the net through Wingate. Just comes straight up with "can't find whatever.com". Obviously this is cause its looking for some kind of dial up connection. How the hell do I tell it to go through Wingate?

It concerns me too that there isn't any kind of tray icon on the 95 machine to indicate that Wingate it is running. Should there be one?

Also, my TCP/IP settings for my Local Area connection are as follows:

IP Address: 192.168.0.1
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: blank

Preferred DNS server: 137.107.1.7 (as suggested by help file)
Alternate DNS server:204.95.111.254 (as suggested by helpfile)

I'm sure these last two are wrong or something

If anyone can offer ANY kind of help I'd greatly appreciate it.

Thanks

The settings I have just mentioned were the TCP/IP settings for the LAN connection on the XP Pro machine.

I'll probably need help with the settings on the Win95 machine aswell.

Thanks again.

Can you get access to the Internet from the Server ?

If you've installed ENS (NAT) all the configuration that is needed on the client is to go into it's TCP/IP properties and set the following:

(a) Default GateWay: 192.168.0.1
(b) DNS Server: 192.168.0.1

And that should be it ...
