Apr 01 04 2:40 pm

Hi all,
How to use the NT authentication (Domain) to manage the user right,
Change password, control the user group to access internet ... etc?
Please, anybody know how to configure and apply this function? Thanks.

Hi there

By choosing the NT userdatabase option will allow WinGate to use the NT database, local or domain controller to validate users and assign policies to users and groups in WinGate.

Once the NT userdatabase is in place the users and groups will show up on the Users tab in WinGate. You can set WinGate policies, access restriction policies etc per service based on these users and groups just as you would if you were using WinGate user database.

Be aware that certain authentication will not work when using NT user database such as Java login and Telnet logins.

Permissions, shares, general NT network admin, etc adding Users, change password etc are still set in the User Mangager in NT.

For more on using NT user database options you can read the articles on our knowledgebase

Thanks,
Finally, I able to do that ... BTW, how to set a policy so that just allow certain group of user to access the service? My point is I don't want everybody able to access the service (e.g. WWW ... etc).

Hi there

Great to hear you can use the NT database

Policies can be set per service.

For example if a group of users called "Webusers" need to be able can be configured to have access to the WWW proxy server (ie need access to the HTTP protocol for Web browsing) then you can set a policy in the WWW service (Found on the policy tab) on who has a right to access this service.

You can either select everyone or specific users and groups to be included
in this policy. When setting this policy the NT list of users and groups will show up and you can pick the apporiate one to be included by this policy.
In my example, it would be the "Webusers" group.
