WG Engine Shut down

Jun 08 07 2:22 am

I have had a problem the last couple of months where clients have reported no internet connection. After investigating, in most cases it was because the WG engine has shut down on its' own - seemingly at random - when users browsing. It has been sporadic and a few calls and I can get things up and running again. However, it has happened more frequently of late on my own system. I can't find any log files to indicate what has happened either in WIndows or WG log files.

Here is a page that seems to cause this issue for me. I was hoping someone else could try loading it and see if anything happens. For me, this page terminates WG engine every time.

Thanks.

Hi Chris,

I can replicate that with the following procedure:

- Install 6.2.1
- Within the History tab, right click and select properties.
- In the Database Filter settings, select Simple Filter --> Description --> Contains --> SMTP
- Open this link on a LAN Client set to use the WWW Proxy:
http://www6.autonet.ca/Maintenance/Reca ... 94894.html
- Crash

Work around:
Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Qbik Software\WinGate\Logging and add in the escape characters for the double quotes e.g. \"SMTP\" within the LogFilter

Let the forum know how you get on.

Acknowledgement: My colleague Logan discovered this a few days ago when investigating a similar issue for a Japanese client.
Extra Info: This has also been tested with WG 2007 and does not cause the crash; i.e. no registry intervention needed.

Crap. You guys are good. Somehow, and I don't know when, (good memory, just short) I had put a filter on the History Tab of GateKeeper and as soon as I removed it, voila, to pardon my French, everything is OK. I didn't do any registry adjustments. Good to know, I am not the only one - sometimes I wonder!

For new bugs found from June 2007, the current standings are:
Japan 1 - Canada 0 :)

Nev, is that with or without a GateKeeper DB filter in place?
