No. 1 Disable DNS service and DHCP service in Wingate.

Point the server to its own address for DNS ONLY, then point all clients to the DC for DNS.

When you ran DCPROMO on the server it asked you if you wanted it to configure DNS, did you let DCPROMO configure DNS?

If it did it may have created a Root Forward lookup zone, the root zone is a dot ".". Delete that zone, that will enable root hints which allows the internal DNS to resolve from the ICANN Root DNS servers. You can optionally enable a forwarder to your ISP's DNS on the Forwarders Tab.

If you wish to use DHCP, use DHCP included in Win2k. Configure DHCP with these Scope options.
003 With the IP of your router or if you are using the server as your router use the private IP of the server.
006 DNS Use only the private IP of the server for DNS.
015 DNS domain name, Use this option if you want DHCP to dyamically register clients in DNS that do not support DDNS.
