Problems starting Gatekeeper

WinGate 5.2.3 runs on Winnt 4.0 SP 6a. When i start Gatekeeper, comes nothing. I can see, that Gatekeeper is running in TaskManager, but see no user interface. I can start even several instances of it, each will be seen in TaskManager, but anyway - no window, no login invitation, just nothing. Sometimes (very-very rare) it works right and i may login, but i cann't find any reasons for so strange behavior. WinGate is configured so, than only minimum of services are started - no DHCP. no DNS, no SMTP or POP servers, no services needed for WinGate clients.

I expirience this problem on 2 different machines with slitely different hardware, but the same configuration of WinGate and OS.

Hi Goff

How have you configured WinGate with minimal services...during installation? Or through GateKeeper? You have the remote control service working OK?

Have you tried accessing GateKeeper by opening the GateKeeper.exe in the WinGate installation directory directly (double clicking on it) or by copying to another machine and logging on remotely (ie specifiying an IP in the WinGate server location box instead of logging on locally?

thank you for your reply.

I configured it through GateKeeper, it starts well first or second time after installation.

GDP protokol was disabled from the beginning, later i enabled it becouse i found some info that Gatekeeper probably uses it to connect to wingate service, but it doesn't help.

I used version 4.x.x for a long time, and GDP protokol was disabled there, and Gatekeeper worked well.

I tryed to start Gatekeeper using all possible ways - with doublclick and with right button clickon on icon in system tray, startin' .exe directly, through StartMenu - result is allways the same - it starts and i see it as running process in TaskManager, but no user interface comes.

I may acces and configure wingate from a remote machine, what i exactly do:-). Actually, it is OK to control it from a remote machine. But the fact is, that this problem appears on another machine with similar config, so i would be thankfull for any idea, what is wrong.

Goff. Are tryed login to the machine that is attemping to log on to the wingate as adminsitrator? (what I said... sorry for the english, I am latin)
Recently I had a problem very similar, I could not log in into the gatekeeper because my user does not had administrative rank.
After asigning my user to administrators group on the server the problem got solved.

No, the problem lays not in denyed login, anyway i'm an administrator. The problem is that GK shows no window, where i could login.

This night i did full uninstal of wingate, and installed it once more from the beginning. I think i may provide a litle bit more information to Qbik - i may start Gatekeeper, but only if i click with right button on icon (wingate monitor) in system tray and choose from the menu "start gatekeeper" Strange, but only this way works. I was really confused trying different ways to start it, with different sets of started services and plugins.
I'm happy, that this way now works reliably, hope it works further. I still have no idea, where the reason of such behavior lays, it seems it is really very rare problem.
