Client problem on wingate 4.5

The WinGate Server stops responding to client requests after awhile,
is there something that I can do to stop this?
I have windows 2000 professional with sp4 on P4 processor and 40 gb hdd with 256 mb ram.
Using client for vpn solutions and voice over internet is the intention. The constant pinging of the client is essential to keep my solution online and active. The server does not respond to pinging request of my client after some span of time.
Please guide me
