WWW proxy server getting 100s of hits per minute (help!)

Jul 25 07 11:57 am

Starting this morning the WWW proxy service started going totaly berserk with hundreds of random IPs & external urls flashing on the activity screen. When I switch the display to "by service" they show as "Guest : http://".

They seem to be random and I'm not exaggerating when I say hundreds. Also the connection graph shows a constant 2mbs drain. My connection still works but its slower than usual. If I stop the service or the engine the activity ceases. Something is misconfigured What could it be?

I dont know if this is related but why would my internet gateway IP be flashing "(dead)" every few seconds?

Thanks!

Do you have WWW service bound on external interface?

Yes, so I deleted that binding and it is stopped the problem --Thanks! *But* I thought I needed an external binding so the public can reach my web server which is on another machine on the internal network ?? In fact once I removed that binding the web site no longer works. How do I get that working so that I dont have this other problem?

Actually I think I may have figured it out. I checked, "Through HTTP proxy with SSL support" and entered the IP of the web server and it appears to be working. Was that the correct answer?

Thanks!

As a matter of fact I myself would rather use either port redirection in ENS (or simple TCP mapping service).

You are correct because my solution didnt work I just found out --while the server started working, it caused the local browsers to start getting socket errors to the internet. I will try what you just said. Thanks!
