help with excessive usage

Jul 29 04 1:00 pm

Can someone help me find where all our traffic is going. We are currently using 1 gig a day according to our isp on an adsl connection.where can I find what pecentage is cache etc.I have to suspect that the cache just isnt setup to work properly. All machines are connectiong thru java and proxy. Is there a way of tracking overall usage per day at this end to confirm the isps figures.I dont think logging history would help much and the system probably wouldnt handle it as it pops up http 404s already under heavy usage.I do have auditing and accounting turned on for most users as they are charged for what they use but there doesnt seem to be any global total and i dont wish to reset the figures until the next billing cycle.
any suggestions please.

Hi

are you sure none of your clients are using peer to peer sharing programs?

Those and trojans and other viruses are the most common sources of excessive usage. If they are connecting through WinGate, their traffic should show up, check the WinGate history window.

thanks

yes quite sure of that,Have all ports except 80 tied down and that is only accessible thru java, systems all fully virus secured by corporate package and desktops secured,All proxy settings ,desktop software policies etc etc completely locked and checked, machines are turned off at night.there is access to streaming media sites but I still can't find anywhere to verify the traffic volumes on a daily basis.the traffic meters are only in realtime and not logging by my understanding. How can I verify the efficiency/effectiveness of my cache setup rules
