SENT MAIL

Oct 04 07 1:47 am

Hi again,
How do I move the sent emails keeped from WG to a specific mailbox so outlook or other mail client can download sent emails?
Or is there another way to get sent items?
It's a usefull function to keep sent emails but i can't find any info in the manual or in the forum so i can only see that sent emails are stored under spool/sent and there is no way to open the file, so i need to move those emails to a normal mailbox.

Thanks

The .msg files contained in the mail\spool\sent folder are actually just plain text files. You can open files in a text editor to see their contents.

To make .msg files automatically open in a text editor, do the following:
- Right click on an msg file
- If you are prompted with a screen that states that you cannot open the file and asks what you want to do, choose "Select program from a list" (XP/2k3 only)
- Find and select either notepad, wordpad, or your own preffered text editor in the list.
- Select "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file"
- Click OK.

The email will now open up, and any further attempts to open a .msg file will automatically open in the text editor you selected.

If you still want to put these emails to a specific inbox to be read, create a new user in the user database to receive these emails, then copy the .msg files from WinGate\Mail\Spool\Sent\ to this users POP3 mailbox in WinGate\Mail\POP3\{username}\. You may need to create a new folder for this user if it hasn't received any mail yet.

Thanks, but i think can be a way to change some registry keys to redirect the sent emails to a mailbox.
Why outlook can't open those msg files?

I just saw that in the sent folder there are also the pop3 collected emails, how is this possible?
The header say : received from user@domani.com by WinGate (POP3 Collection 6.2.2
but the sent emails the header say : received form PCname by SMTP Server [10.0.0.3]

How do i disable the copy of received emails too???

Thanks

Hi

With POP3 collection, WinGate downloads the mails and places them in the delivery queue.

keeping a copy of sent mail keeps a copy of everything that went through the delivery queue, so this gets copies of the POP3 collected mail as well.

there's no setting currently to alter this unfortunately.

If you want to move those sent mails to a mailbox, you'd need to run some other script to occasionally move them to a folder associated with a POP3 account in WinGate (not IMAP). You could do this with a scheduler action that runs a batch file to do this.

outlook should have no trouble reading the files either. Are .MSG files associated with Outlook?
