Hi Adrien,

Thankyou very much for the fixes. I am just updating now.

Btw, is there any way to see the usage of each user and create graphs(Browsing). I remember wingate was providing an addon for the same. Is it still there or is there any other way to handle this.

Hi Adrien,

I just updated it. But the problem with ftp downloading is still there.

"3. Fixed bug with FTP through HTTP proxy when no scanning plugins installed. There was a problem with some older versions of IE downloading from ftp sites, whereby they would only get 75% of a download. "

Does this fix the logging problem I mentioned in this thread?

about this 5.2.3 i still get gate keeper closed when i double cllick on users in groups. this does not happen when i click on a ny other group and this has been happening with any verion i used. could it be that there is something wrong in my import list of users? (they're no more than 30 users)

Wingate 5.2.3 Build 901

Mar 02 04 9:52 pm

Seems like the new 5.2.3 build 901 is a downgrade. Large email sending causes it to crash. Starts giving HTTP500 errors until you disconnect and reconnect the dialup. Also, FTP transfers are very painful.
when are you guys putting out a new (or working old) version on your website for download?

Make sure that you in fact have Wingate 5.2.3 Build 901 installed (before complaining). I downloaded it a day or two after its release was announced, but it seems like the actual setup file WgSetup.exe was still the older 5.2.2 build 892 on the server at the time. In gatekeeper, use System info to make sure that you installed the newer version.
I just re-downloaded 5.2.3 and the file size is now different than the one I downloaded previously.

sorry to disappiont you but its 5.2.3 build 901 and just today the wingate hung up and i couldn't start it anymore and restarting the computer didn't help so i uninstalled it and reinstalled it and doubler clicking on users exits gate keeper

i haVe win 2000 and since i last posted the message and reinstalled 5.2.3 it still is working fine i remmeber when it hung up and never restarted because i was banning something involving gator (right clik ban) since then i am only copying to clip board and pasting the web site in the ban list. i like to see some day wingate staff making a version that ban gator gmt hotbar and other crap in its default installation just like wnroute kero firewall.

Wingate 5.2.3 build 901 STILL has problems

Mar 08 04 11:28 pm

Hi

Wingate 5.2.3 definately still has issues.
1) Something between the caching, the DNS lookup caching, and DNS is still not working properly. It works for a while and then starts giving internal server errors HTTP500, and HTTP 404's. I diabled all caching and it works a bit better and longer. Also seems faster.
2) FTP uploading and downloading is a big problem, especially big files like 1MB

Please. I dont want to wipe everything and have to install Kerio's product. I like Wingate, and I have been a loyal paying patient customer for a long time. But it is about time that these issues go away forever...

about caching i set up 20 filters each with one crirerion like http resorce contains.html or .wmv or .gif and my caching is great with no problems
as far as ftp i agree there is something wrong... i am not talking about downloading files from ftp sites which works fine ( ofcourse in client's browsers i long ago replaced port 21 with 80 for ftp since otherwise it always give the massege 220 wingate gatewaY ready). anyway i am refering to uploading ftp files. i use ws_ftp client aND i couldn't get it to work but with using nat, so anyone knows a solution to this ftp problem?

It's more than just FTP protocol.
Things such as Citrix connections (and other homespun web based applications) tend to freeze or loose connectivity as well.

DNS caching / caching when you only use HTTP / FTP proxies (NAT DISABLED) still stops working after a while, and a reboot gets it going again. Aything that needs a reboot after some time definately has ISSUES. FTP uploading to web server is definately a problem, as well as downloading some files, while going directly via modem is no problem.

Exactly the same problem with Win NT server. IP is working (ping OK) but DNS is blocked (no errors nor nothing). When I stop the wingate service DNS works well. I was forced to go back to previous version. Will it ever be corrected ?

The same problem here, but WinGate 5.2.3 with older qbikh*.sys files work OK.

Wingate 5.2.3 build 901 with older system driver works betta

Apr 01 04 10:31 pm

Hi all

I also tried installing Wingate 5.2.3 build 901 on Windows 2000.
Had problems with DNS, FTP, SMTP etc. and instability.

Then I copied the system file qbikh2k.sys from version 5.2.2 over the new one to the WindowSystem\Drivers folder.

And The instability on DNS is so far pretty mutch completely gone!
(Although SMTP with large attachments is still sometimes a problem)

i upgraded from 5.0.7 to 5.2.3 and i just want to cry. it seems to run ok and preserved my settings but i just cannot get any DNS on the box at all.

someone was muttering about copying an older version file to the system32 folder in windows?? i'll sell a body part to get it if that fixes the problem with DNS.

Let me know if anyone have solution to see properly.

I would like to ask those who experience this problem with DNS requests not being resolved to give a bit more details about their configurations: what kind of external connections you are using, did you see any firewall hits related to this problem (like, source port being 53). Also, if any of you send the details of your configuration to me, including routing tables data, it would be highly appreciated and help us greately to resolve this issue.

Do you mean when you type in http://www.qaos.com it doesn work but if you use the IP address (i.e. http://220.73.160.95/ ) it does work?

I take it you are using WinGate's DNS server? Or is this a proxy connection (browser configured to use the proxy).

I am using the proxy and please put the address as "http://qaos.com" on the IE.
IE will download a file "index.php" not shwoing web site.

weird, i tried it and i got download a file while putting the ip opened the site, i also have wingate 5.2.3. i tried it on a client machine and on the server. since this happened on the server machine too then i assume than wingate dns has nothing to do with it. besides wingate dns never caused any problems that i know of before..

I don't think the problem came from the DNS function.
It is the problem of proxy function.
In my case, only the wingate proxy function has this problem.
I don't see this problme with other proxy program.

We should see web site not download a file.
The site is one of example, other site may be have similar problem.
In my case, when i connect direct without proxy, i don't have the downloading problem.

I just want to be fixed for users and i hope to have perfect proxy server.
Thanks

insignificant bug

Jun 05 04 8:37 am

this isn't much of a problem but in wingate 5.2.3 when i deleted a dial up connection i read in the system messages in the gate keeper there was a connectiod instead of a connection so it's just a spelled incorrectly, no a big deal

Jun 05 04 8:44 am

Connectiod is geek speak.

I think it's the description/properties of a connection.

Any of you geeks out there (you know who you are) feel free to elaborate.

Wingate Client wont connect unless server re-starts

Jul 21 04 9:43 pm

I'm a bigginer using Wingate 5.2.3 and have a problem of connecting as a client to the server on following situation:

Details:
Server Computer: OS WIN ME
Client Computer: OS WIN XP

I always have to ask my room mate (Server Computer) to re-start which sometimes is embarrasing... or just wait when he gets off his room.

Need HELP ANYONE!!!!....Please.
