After making the RT8029 workaround to cure connection problems as per,

the Wingate SMTP server started timing out and would not accept mail. According to FPORT Wingate was still listening on port 25 but all connections to port 25 timed out.
I re-enabled my spare NIC, disabled the RT8029 and the SMTP service went back to work.
The weird thing about this is before the workaround the SMTP server is the only service that would work on the RT8029 before I applied the "workaround" go figure.
