Installing Mail Server after having installed WinGate

Aug 09 04 8:17 pm

Dear WinGate Experts,

having installed Wingate 5.2.3 without the integrated mail server I now would like to have this feature.

A first attempt to reinstall WinGate failed. The installation process didn't ask for the installation of the integrated mail server

Is there a way to "upgrade" without loosing all other settings and plugins?

Many thanks for your help.

Hi

Basically the only thing the installer does if you don't select "use WinGate mail" is to disable the SMTP server and POP3 server from starting.

You can simply edit these services, and change their startup option to automatic.

You may get a port conflict with the POP3 proxy, and/or SMTP proxy (rather than server), so you should probably just disable these, or delete them.

Thanks to Adrien for fast response.

Concerning your reply I may have a totally different problem:
The SMTP Server doesn't show up in the SYSTEM or SERVICE menu. I just can't configure it as there is nothing to configure. It is just missing. I thougt it was a installation problem. But now I have to change my question: How can I get the SMTP Server visible in the menu?

Do you have any idea?

Thanks

ah..

That happens if you are still running your version 4 key. WinGate's mail server was only available if you are running a version 5 or later key.

Thank you very much, that's the explanation.

In fact, I'm still using a V4 key.

I will contact my local reseller for an upgrade.

With best wishes from the other side of the world.
