Using Skype through Wingate

Nov 12 07 9:10 pm

Hi all,

I use Wingate version 6.2.2 (Build 1137) installed on windows 2K server. I would like to use Skype through wingate proxy, unfortunately Ie get some problems. Indeed Skype can’t maintain a permanent connection. I get skype disconnected periodically.

My configuration is as follow:

Wingate server configuration: Extended Networking –> Port security

- TCP 9000 Internet computers to the wingate PC
- TCP 9000 Internet computers to DMZ
- Allow packet
- Never timeout

WinXP client - Skype configuration:

- Use port 9000 for incoming connections
- Use port 80 and 443 as alternatives for incoming connections is checked
- SOCKS5 is selected
- Host: IP address of proxy server – Port : 80

Please note that when using Skype on the same WinXP client, with the same configuration and direct internet connection it works fine.

I would appreciate if anyone could tell me what is wrong.

Thanks in advance.

Max.

How often does your Skype client disconnect?

Every 1 minute. And then Skype reconnect auomatically and so on...

When you said "disconnecting" - did you mean that the actual skype control channel gets disconnected or an incoming call?

The Skype control channel gets diconnected.

Addtional information:
When Skype client is connected I can see on GateKeeper the connection SSL://89.173.20.72:443. Of course this connection disappear when Skype client gets disconnected.

It's likely this connection is just being timed out due to inactivity. You should try increasing the timeout setting on the sessions tab of the WWW proxy.
