how to restrict users online time frame at WinGate 6.0.1

Aug 24 04 5:44 pm

Hi all,

Good day everybody.I'm ryan and i would like to know how to configure the several functions which i state below. Because i'm quick fresh to use this software.hope can get ideas from the experts here and thanks for helping.

Our company purchased 50 users license of WinGate 5.X Pro and apply it in the library computer room. I think i will upgrade later on to version6.0.1.

we need to provide the internet sharing but need to restricted users hour by hour, because those computers are place in the open area in the library.

-For instance: User A,login to WinGate at 16:00GMT and will leave at 17:00GMT. Then the user get the login username and password from counter and surfing there. When times up(means reach 17:00GMT),the WGIC or GateKeeper will terminate the online service automatically, unless the User A want to extend the access time at the counter again more an hour or more.

-Which service i need create and how to configure it while the above situation i want to apply.at user account?

-We have 15 computers currently,is it i have to create a group of user from A to O, to restrict them or have to create user one by one?

-what are the steps i need to follow?

Hope can get some ideas from here.

Thank you very much

Hi Ryan,

You should be able to do this by creating a user for each computer and creating a policy in the WWW proxy so stop surfing after seconds on line exceeds a certain amount, in your case 3600 seconds.

1. Create a user for each machine
2. Create a policy in the WWW proxy that all users must be authenticated, and that default rights are ignored, choose Java authentication.
3. On the advanced tab of the policies page in the WWW proxy choose specify which requests this recipient has rights for, add a filter and add a criterion-
this criterion is NOT met if
User: seconds on line
greater than
3600

This will terminate a users session after they have been logged in for one hour. To reset the balance open the user properties, select the accounting tab and click the reset button, the seconds on line will be reset to 0 and the user will have another hour online.

I hope this helps.
