I'm having problems using the AD user database to authenticate. The WG machine was joined to our domain, and the domain admin is the current login user. Another problem, I believe related, I've found is when I try to share out a local folder on the WG box. When I go to the screen where I can add a user to be able to access the new shared folder, I click location and the only thing that comes up is the local PC name. I cannot see the domain. My question is this, why would only the PC show up? I believe this is also causing my problems with AD users, but don't know where to go to resolve this.

The only thing I can think of is that WINS is not installed on the internal LAN, though I've been told that WINS was unnecessary. Any thoughts?Thank you.

I'm no expert when it comes to Active Directories, but from what you have said, it does sound like a problem with the local computers sync with the domain.

How are the WinGate computers DNS options set? The internal network adaptor that faces the AD should have the ADDNS server set for it's primary DNS. The external adaptor should have a DNS server set that can resolve internet domain names. If the ADDNS server is not set on the local adaptor you will experience problems with your sync with the domain.

You can send the forum an overview of your network adaptor settings with the following command.

Start > Run > cmd > "ipconfig/all >> c:\ipa.tx"
This command will record the output of an ipconfig/all into c:\ipa.txt.

I had left the DNS entry blank, per some instructions I saw on setting up WG. Once I put the AD server's IP in, that seems to have fixed things. I'll try the AD user list again when I can go onsite. Thanks Logan.

It's fine having the ADDNS server set on a network adaptor (the DNS setting is what puts the "Active" into Active Directory), but you still want to prevent WinGate from using that DNS server for resolving Internet domain names. You can do this by adding the servers to WinGate's advanced options.

Start > Programs > WinGate > Advanced Options > DNS Servers > Add the ADDNS server(s) to the list
