Block Specific Workstation

Sep 06 04 12:13 am

Hi,

How do you block a specific workstation from browsing the internet. Even if a user with valid username & password should not be able to browse from the workstation.

Thanks

Hi there,

One of the simplest ways to stop Web browsing on a particular machine is to set a policy for everyone in the WWW proxy service and on the properties config for the "Everyone" selection
choose the Location tab.

Select the "Specify location..."" radio button and enter the IP address of the workstation that needs to be restricted in the "Excluded location" box.
Obviously the Workstation should have a static set Ip address so it wont change and break the policy.

Hope this helps

We are using dynamic IP (DHCP), can I block using the Computer name?

Yes. You will need to specify Advanced Filters and Criterion though. Add a new filter for each workstation you want to BLOCK (Or allow). Then add a single criterion to it which says:

"Client: NetBIOS name equals " <computer>

Make sure that it is set to "This right is NOT granted" if you want to BLOCK or to "This right is granted" if you want to ALLOW.

As an alternative you can ban this workstation IP by adding it on the blackhole list (v6 upwards, though).

Tried it and it worked. Thank you very much.
