2 Internet Connections and services

Oct 07 04 10:38 am

Hi, i have a question regarding multiple gateways and redirecting a service or port trough one gateway or the other.
basically i have 1 adsl with high latency, and 1 cable modem with low latency. Y want all http, msn, cam, p2p apps, etc, traffic going trough the adsl connection, and all game traffic (cs, ragnarok, Unreal, etc) going trough the cable modem.
Ive succeded in the http part, it defaults to the adsl connecton (iv made this configuring the www proxy service).
But how about the other ports? Ive tried with a tcp mapping service, but couldnt make it to work.

Im using 5.2.3 in a windows 2000 pro pc.

Any help would be apreciated.

Scuse me for my bad english.

You should upgrade to version 6. We have completely re-writeen our handling of how we deal with Gateways, and multiple outbound connections. It is now much easier to specificy who and what uses each connection.

Yes, I Know, but rigth now i can´t update the software and i need to solve this with 5.2.3 :S
Maybe in a couple of weeks i´ll make the transition to 6.

So, can it be done in 5.2.3?

The simple answer is, not really. Certainly not reliably. Your best bet would be to give the two default routes that you'll have in your route table (by virtue of having two internet connections) different metrics, with the interface that you want to use for games traffic having the higher (ie 1) metirc so that the NAT will use that connection, which the games will connect out through, and then set the proxies to use the other connection with the lower metric (ie 30). This presumes that windows doesn't try to be smart and start interfering with your custom metrics.

This should tide you over until you get the chance to upgrade to version 6.
