GPS system 'blocked'
At the moment we implement a GPS system in our company to monitor our trucks. All data of the vendors comes in on port 80. To access the internet we use user authentication.
Problem.
Before we can receive data we first must open any web site and after that our vendor can connect to our SQL database and 'upload' the data. Similair like we update our Sysmantec Virus scanner - first we need to open any web site, after that we can update the virus scanner.
How can we open ports (both for incoming as wel as for outgoing) without opening any web site first?
Thanks,
M.

It sounds like the applications you are using do not support NTLM authentication, or whatever authentication method you have chosen. I know this is the case with McAfee's automatic updates.
What you will need to do is create overrides in your policies that allow unauthenticated access to these websites (or ports). This is a simple task that involves creating a new policy.
Since I don't know the website that your GPS application is trying to access (or what ports if it's not via HTTP), I can't give you an exact step by step guide for your scenario, but here's an example guide. If you would like an exact guide, can you let me know more about the application and what resources it needs from the internet.
If you wanted your users to have unauthenticated access to WinGate.com:
1. GateKeeper -> Services tab -> WWW Proxy server -> Policies
2. Click Add
3. Goto the Advanced tab
4. Select 'Specify which requests this recipient has rights for'
5. Click Add Filter, then click Add Criterion
6. Select: [This criterion is met if] [HTTP URL] [contains] [wingate.com]
7. Click OK, OK, then Apply to finalise the changes

Hi,
Which version of Wingate are you using, 6.2.2 for example?
How are you connecting to the Internet, is it a dial up or some sort of permanent connection such as ADSL?
Call back and let the forum know how you get on.
