What I am looking for

Its been many years since I used Wingate now I need a proxy server that will sit behind my firewall and allow me to block all web access and set a white list of allowed sites for different groups of users.

Can Wingate do this and if so on what platforms?

WinGate will pretty much do that for you. You would go into the WWW Proxy Service configuration and set different user groups. Using Advanced Filters and Criterion you would only grant rights to specific sites.

That should cover that case. WinGate itself only works on Windows based platforms, Windows 95, 98, ME, NT4, 2000, XP and 2003. We do have a BETA product, WinGate X for Linux platforms which I anticipate there will be a download for within a week or two, but it's not available currently.
